Why we call it active support
Active support is more than filling hours. It's support shaped around each participant's goals — building fitness, community connection, and independence across Newcastle and Lake Macquarie.
Most support work fills the day. We try to make the day count.
That’s what we mean by active support. Not just hours filled — hours well spent. Support shaped around each participant’s goals: building fitness and wellbeing, growing community connection, developing independence in everyday life. The kind of week where Tuesday becomes Tennis Tuesday, not the same Tuesday on repeat. A session at the gym, lunch out, errands knocked off and home with a story to tell.
It’s a small shift, but it carries through the week.
What it actually looks like
A typical day with us might be a morning walk — easy pace, big chats. A tennis hit at the local courts, beginners welcome, no scoreboard pressure. A boxing session — gloves on, music up and sweat earned. A trip to the shops with a list, a budget, and a plan. A café stop, because that’s where the great chats happen.
The shape changes by participant. Someone working towards a fitness goal looks different to someone building social confidence. Someone getting back into hobbies looks different again. That flexibility is what we aim for.
Why we lean into movement
Movement is the differentiator, not the limit. If a participant’s goal is a craft class or board games with mates — that’s where the support goes. But we’ve found the days with some kind of movement woven in tend to land differently. Better sleep. Better moods. Better banter.
We meet people where they’re at, then nudge — gently, consistently — towards their goals and aspirations.
Who it suits
Active support isn’t only for people who are already active. It’s for anyone whose week could use a bit more out and a bit less in. We work with participants across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, and the Hunter.
If “get out more” has been something you’ve wanted to work towards for a while, we’d love to help you make it real.
